Review & Quotes

Rating: Unrated

I borrowed this book from my sister-in-law Sarah. I’m only a 100 or so pages through it but it is very striking in its details of the India slums. Quite desolate living conditions….

Very well written book looking at the social and economical differences between middle class and poor as well as expectations and roles of women. The main characters are an upper middle class woman Sera and her servant Bhami who is caring for her orphaned granddaughter. It follows each through their lives which are intertwined via flashbacks. It is quite heart wrenching at times as it shows the cruelty of ‘humanity’.
