This was a surprisingly fast book to read. Unlike The Taker, this book got it right in its constant moving between present and the past as Emily, a recently divorced writer goes to visit her Aunt Bee on Bainbridge Island and finds Ester’s diary… The book takes turns between Ester’s diary and 1943 and the present time and the links between the two.
