I picked this book up several months ago at BJs… Decided to read it following the Heretic’s Daughter as they were both about the Salem witch trails. Where the Heretic’s daughter was believable historical fiction… this one was a bit out there…

It was an ok story but it very predictable and the writing was more along the lines of young adult fiction… I was often frustrated waiting for the main character to “get it” and stop stating the obvious…

The plot consists of a young phd candidate, Connie, who needs to find a primary source for her dissertation on American History. She also ends up inheriting the job of cleaning up her grandmother’s old house in Marblehead, MA just outside of Salem. Needless to say she finds the ‘source’ in her grandmother’s house in the form of a reference to a Deliverance Dane.

The books moves back and forth between Deliverance’s life in 1692 and Connie searching for clues in 1991.
